Gorge
Defining force behind the Mannheim Sound
Gorge, whose real name is Pit Waldmann, has been an internationally established figure in Mannheim’s electronic music scene for many years. His musical roots lie in the drums and piano, before the emerging electronic club culture of the late 1980s and early 1990s increasingly drew him towards DJing and production.
Together with Nick Curly, he runs 8bit Records, one of the labels that played a major role in bringing the so-called Mannheim Sound to international attention: a deep, warm and strongly groove-oriented house sound that deliberately moves between deep house and tech house. Gorge’s releases have appeared on 8bit, Diynamic, Freerange, Systematic, Mobilee and Knee Deep In Sound, among others.
With his debut album “Mood” and numerous successful singles, EPs and remixes, Gorge established himself as a producer well beyond the region. His DJ career has taken him to renowned clubs and events around the globe—including Watergate in Berlin, Rex Club in Paris, as well as earlier performances at Space Ibiza and other internationally renowned venues. Despite his international career, his musical identity remains closely connected to Mannheim and its club history.
